History

Frank J. Petretti (1913-2002) was one of Kenosha's leading residential real estate developers during the last half of the 20th century. In 1943, Frank and his wife, Corinne (1916-2004), opened a remodeling business in Kenosha, renovating churches and other local businesses. He built his first home in 1947 at 3717 22nd Avenue.

Starting in the 1950s, Frank constructed custom-designed homes in the Allendale / Southport area. Petretti, sparked by an interest in the newly conceived idea of the “subdivision,” purchased large tracts of land and expanded his home-building to Kenosha's far north side, filling in entire city blocks with homes. The area became known as the “Villa Capri Subdivision,” encompassing more than 500 Petretti built homes. For the convenience of area residents, Frank developed the Villa Capri Shopping Center on 22nd Avenue and 21st Street. After establishing a classic Kenosha neighborhood of three and four-bedroom homes, Frank answered Kenosha's growing demand for rental properties by constructing more than 1,000 apartment units, which included affordable housing for seniors and families.

Frank and Corinne's business accomplishments have touched many facets of daily life, spanning the many generations who have purchased and lived in Petretti dwellings. Their contribution has touched those who have played in Petretti Park on Kenosha's north side, traveled along the stretch of 18th Street – which has the honorary designation of Petretti Boulevard, and those who play sports and work out in the Petretti Fieldhouse at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.

Today, the apartment complexes are managed by daughters Rita, Patricia and Paulette. The family-owned business carries on the tradition of providing quality housing to generations of residents in Kenosha' s ever-expanding lakeside community.
